The two tech giants signed the agreement on 19 January and revealed they were open to future collaboration on innovative technologies.
Tencent produces various social products that are highly popular in China, such as WeChat.
Sam Xu, deputy general counsel and head of intellectual property at Tencent, commented: “We are pleased to advance the collaboration between the two leading technology companies.”
He said: “With this agreement, both companies can focus on bringing greater products and services to consumers around the world.”
Mike Lee, head of patents at Google, added: "By working together on agreements such as this, tech companies can focus on building better products and services for their users.”
