Latin American countries launch PPH pilot

Latin American countries have launched a patent prosecution highway programme, encompassing Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

The agreement will allow for expedited patent analysis through connections between the patent offices of the nine participants.

All participants are part of PROSUR, a group founded two years ago directed at fostering IP systems in Latin America and reinforcing the work done by the founder national patent offices.

Brazil is already a part of several international PPHs, including with Japan and the US. It launched its PPH pilot project with the US Patent and Trademark Office in January last year.
