Ericsson snags Maharaj

Ericsson has hired Roy Maharaj as vice president of global patent licensing, following his departure from Intellectual Ventures.

Maharaj was vice president of licensing at Intellectual Ventures for nearly seven years. He has more than 20 years of experience within licensing organisations across a diverse range of technologies and industries.

In a statement, Maharaj said he was excited to join Ericsson’s intellectual property rights and licensing team.

“Ericsson has a long standing commitment to investing in research and development and technology leadership,” he said, “I look forward to working with our team, licensees and partners to advance our patent commercialisation efforts in the future.”

Earlier this year, Intellectual Ventures had two of its patents invalidated in a dispute with Ericsson.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld Ericsson’s successful inter-partes review proceedings at the US Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
